Children’s Liturgy
Our Mission
We at Epiphany seek to be a welcoming place where children can come to know Christ and grow as His young disciples. We hope to lay a foundation of faith which will sustain children through adolescence and into adulthood.
Guiding Principles
There are five underlying themes that we wish to share with each child in our care.
What Programs are Offered for My Child?
Infants and Toddlers through Age Three. For infants and children through age three, professional child care is offered in the nursery located in the Bishop’s hall. There are age appropriate toys and books, as well as an outside play area.
Pre-Kindergarten through First Grade. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. (CGS) CGS is not a programme; it is an approach to helping children express their innate spirituality and to understand the tenets of our faith. The atrium; the room in which Catechesis takes place, is not a substitute for church: but it is a holy space and certain behaviour is encouraged and developed. We walk the atrium walk and talk in our atrium voices. There are a range of materials for the children to use in the atrium, but the scriptures are the most important material that they are offered. The adults are not teachers; but are there to help the children come closer to God… by themselves.
Second through Sixth Grade. Our program for second through sixth grade is “Living the Good News.” The curriculum is lectionary based and liturgically centered, offering opportunities to explore the scriptures used each week and to participate in the rhythms and seasons that guide the Church year.
Meeting Time and Location
We meet every Sunday at 9.45 a.m. in the education building. The children return to the regular church service at the Peace. Childcare is available from 9.00 a.m. through the end of the 10:00 a.m. service.
How Can I be Involved?
We have teams of dedicated volunteers from the congregation who guide the children in their lessons and activities. We welcome parents to become involved.
Registration
Registration forms are available at the church office. For more information contact Karen James, Director of Children’s Liturgy at kjames@tcote.org |
