Children’s Liturgy Our Children’s Liturgy program serves children from pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. We meet at 10:00 am in the Bishop’s Hall every Sunday (except for those Sundays in which the children are included in church, such as baptisms.) As an extension of Epiphany’s signature sense of community, our goal is to create a warm, welcoming environment for every child with us. Our curriculum is Living the Good News - Christian Education in the Episcopal Tradition: Lectionary-based and Liturgically centered. The common focus and unified approach allow us to explore the scriptures used in the Sunday liturgy, and week by week, participate in the very rhythms that guide the Church year - Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. Together, we discover the Story of God’s love. We are supplementing the curriculum with “My Episcopal Faith”, which introduces children to the rich history, beliefs, structure and lore of the Episcopal Church. We have teams of dedicated volunteers from our congregation who guide the children. We have “Storytellers” as well as visits from the Vicar, assistant clergy and Minister of Music. The children begin in their grade level centers. Pre-k through 4th grade move together to the carpet area for the Gospel story, followed by age appropriate enrichment activities which may include art, crafts, dramatic play, music, games, scripture reading and discussion. It is all designed to encourage participation and fellowship. 5th and 6th grades will have “Young Teens” from the same series incorporated into their Sunday School time, with sessions to help guide those in this age group in making wise choices and applying God’s guidance to daily life. Church of the Epiphany invites all families to participate in our Children’s Liturgy.
Our Mission From the moment the children first enter our church through their high school years, we want our children to feel connected to the parish family as they learn to become full participants in this part of the body of Christ. When we think of teaching our faith to a child we often think of church and Liturgies. Whether or not children seem aware of what’s said, they do absorb the sights, sounds, and scents in a church service, and the rhythms of motion, song, and stillness. The Church of the Epiphany’s ministries with children and youth offer opportunities to grow in the Christian faith as part of a loving and accepting community. Our programs are marked by energy, enthusiasm and committed adult leadership. As a young person moves from the nursery through Church School and finally the Journey to Adulthood, he or she will develop a working knowledge of Scripture, a familiarity with the traditions of the Episcopal Church, and a habit of prayer. Most importantly, our children and youth experience the church as a place where their questions are encouraged and explored and where adults are committed to sharing their journey - a place where they are comfortable and have fun. | ||
